Participate in exhibitions In 2016, I was working for a (now defunct) wearable tech startup that was launching a massage jacket. In preparation for the launch, we decided to attend the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to show off our product. The trip generated tons of mentions in top publications such as Tech in Asia , Digital Trends , and Business Insider . Tech in Asia articles were also syndicated to Mashable , another (at the time) large publication . This was a surprising profit for a relatively unknown startup based in small Singapore. There is no doubt that exhibitions are effective in gaining media mentions.
After all, journalists and bloggers attend these trade shows to find particularly interesting Australia Phone Number Data subjects to cover. But of course, don't think you'll get earned media just because you're there. It still has to be newsworthy. CES is a huge conference with hundreds, if not thousands, of potential products being talked about. Journalists must choose between these options and report on the few that they think their audience will enjoy the most (or at least find novel). In our case, the product's positioning as the world's first massage jacket caught their attention. Not only has it never been done before, but we also have an actual prototype for testing. This was noteworthy and was even covered by the media. Recommended book: How to conquer trade shows and why even solo entrepreneurs should try it out
6. Submit your product for review Another way we got earned media was by reaching out to journalists and offering them jackets to test. This way, we gained further press coverage in publications such as Engadget and Refinery29 . This strategy works even for well-known names. For example, Tim Ferriss shipped over 1,000 copies of his advance copy of 4-Hour Body , resulting in tons of Amazon reviews and the book becoming a bestseller. We recently provided a preview of Ahrefs Webmaster Tools to journalists, resulting in mentions in Search Engine Journal and Tech Radar . Now, if you're an established brand, getting these reviews should be relatively easy.
